Leeds United: Whites confirm transfer of goalkeeper
Wednesday, 19th Jul 2017 21:05 by @LucasMonk_

Goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has departed for Hellas Verona.

Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has today completed a permanent transfer to Hellas Verona of Serie A, having made 88 league appearances for the Whites.

The move will see the former Modena, Cagliari and Chievo shot-stopper return to his native Italy after three years at Elland Road following his initial arrival in the summer of 2014.

Having indisputably established himself as United's first-choice 'keeper during his first two seasons in West Yorkshire, the 26 year-old was displaced last season following the arrival of former England international Robert Green from Queens Park Rangers. The Italian did not make a single appearance for Leeds in the Championship during the 2016-17 campaign.

Any hopes of the player staking a convincing claim for first-team football in the forthcoming season were promptly extinguished earlier this summer, when United secured the signature of Werder Bremen's Felix Wiedwald last month.

It is abundantly clear that the motivation behind the move is a wish on the player's part for first-team football and the transfer represents a favourable outcome for all parties involved.

To provide additional goalkeeping support, Bailey Peacock-Farrell - who recently signed a new three-year contract running until 2020 - has travelled to Austria to partake in Leeds' pre-season tour.
