Hamshaw began his career at Sheffield Wednesday back in 1998 where he stayed for seven seasons making 74 appearances whilst scoring 2 goals.

He moved to Edgeley Park in 2005 where Stockport County had a terrible season in League 2 including a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Macc.

After a fall out with Jim Gannon, in 2006 he signed for Mansfield Town and was a crowd favourite.

2008 saw him move to Notts County where he stayed two seasons before being released in May of this year.

Matt has scored at the Moss Rose just once whilst playing for Notts County in 2009.

Hamshaw joined the Silkmen in July 2010 on a one year deal.

A cracker of a game at the Walkers Stadium tonight as Macclesfield Town lost out in a seven goal thriller. Goals from Nat Brown, Vinny Mukendi and Colin Daniel were not enough as Championship side Leicester proved too strong.

Macclesfield Town showed Stevenage that this Football League lark isn't as easy as it seems at Broadhall Way this afternoon.  It was nearly three points in the bag for the Silkmen until Charlie Griffin popped up in the 89th minute.

Gary Simpson gave Matthew Hamshaw a chance to gain a contract at the Moss Rose last night and boy did he do himself no harm.  Two goals and a decent performance should see him given another chance on Saturday.

So far, this has been the best pre season for a long long time don't you think?  Ok so we haven't come up against bigger teams yet but for confidence and scoring goals its done us the world of good.
