Newcastle United and Everton are set to battle it out this summer for Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell.

Rodwell only made seven Premier League starts this season and is believed to be surplus to requirements at The Etihad Stadium. Everton were keen on taking the 23 year old back to Goodison Park in the January Transfer window but City pulled the plug after they failed to land their targets.

City paid £12 million for Rodwell in the summer of 2012 but has failed to hold down a regular first team place and a return to Everton seems his most likely destination, although they will have competition from Alan Pardews Newcastle.
