Not In My Lifetime Fans Interview: Uwe's Grandad
Tuesday, 8th Jul 2014 18:29

Here is the 2nd of our Fan's interviews. This time with our very own blog contributor Uwe's Grandad.

1) When did you become a City fan and why?

City didn't arrive in my life instantly, I'm not ashamed to admit that. I wasn't a blue born, but I am blue bred. Despite my massive, extended family's best efforts, I didn't follow my bloodline's United and Everton allegiances, mainly because I distanced myself from my father. I was born in Tameside, and anyone that lives there knows that City are very prominent there. My Step Father, and his family, were huge blues, and have been for generations. He introduced me to City, and got me into going week in week out. I thank him for bringing me into such a wonderful club at the age of seven.

2) What is your favourite City moment of all time/most treasured memory?

Has to be when Our Sergio scored the winner against QPR. From the jaws of unimaginable defeat to such elation. I love City.

3) If you could bring back a former City player into this team who would it be and why?

I would bring back Sun Jihai, probably just for comedy reasons. Seriously though, I would bring back Uwe Rosler, if we're talking ANY City player EVER. He's a top bloke, and his autobiography is testament to that.

4) Manuel Pellegrini, Your opinion please?

I think the world of Pellegrini. In his first season of English football, which is notoriously difficult to do well in, he won the domestic double, which I think is absolutely fantastic. He's brought about a holistic team spirit, which he said he was going to do when he first came to the club. I really do think that he could, given time, become one of the most successful managers in the history of English football.

Best and worst moments of last season?

The worst part of last season was, for me, the loss to Liverpool. That, to me, looked as if we'd not exactly thrown it, but we looked doomed to second place. Best part of last season, personally, was the win over United at our place. I was rather drunk for that, and seeing us put four goals past United made me unimaginably happy.

Transfers have already been made, but anyone else you would like to come in?

I really want Paul Pogba. He hates United, so do I, we have so much in common! In all seriousness, he looks as if he could be a viable replacement for Yaya, which in the current times is important for the club to consider.

Any players you would happily drive to his new club?

I couldn't really name a player that I definitely wanted to leave. If I was asked this question about 3 months ago, I would've said Dzeko. However, I've recently disavowed my disliking of Dzeko, I've realised that he's a goalscorer, and he's scored some incredibly important goals. I would say Yaya, but due to his ability I wouldn't happily drive him away. If he wanted to go, we'd have to give him the upmost amount of respect, but if he doesn't want to be at the club, I'll happily say goodbye to the lad. I don't like mercenaries.

Favourite current player?

My favourite current player is Vincent. He's an incredible talent, a world class defender, total gentleman, and only cost us £6M. Just another case of City ruining football, obviously.

Any players that have been let go this summer that you would have liked to stay?

JOLEON. He's a class bloke, and I thought he should've been given a couple of minutes to run around and enjoy the atmosphere on the last day of the season. I was disappointed in Manuel for that. Nice to see the fans give him an incredible send off though.

Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

My favourite all time player is Uwe Rosler. I was privileged to see him on his return to the Etihad as Wigan manager. I mainly like him for his incredible story, and the fact that he's a cult hero for City. His chipped goal vs United is one of my favourite footballing memories. From Communist East Germany to scoring in a Manchester Derby, to leading a team out at Wembley, what a story.

And finally, What are your expectations for the new season?

I was just talking to a mate of mine about this. He doesn't seem to think we'll retain the title, I do though. With the squad we have, the captain we have, the holistic team spirit, new lads coming in, bitey-bitey Luis Suarez looking as if he's off to Barca some time soon, the signs are good. I'm predicting a title win, and a cup final as the minimum.
