Not In My Lifetime Fans Interview: Sarah Bryan
Wednesday, 9th Jul 2014 11:08

Here is the next in our Not In mY Lifetime fan's interviews. Today are fan is Sarah Bryan.

1) When did you become a City fan and why?

I became a City fan when I was born, mainly because my dad was (and is) a massive blue. My brother was named after Colin Bell. The first game I attended was City v Everton on 21st April 1990, when I was 16. I am 40 this year. Dad took me for the first time and we went in the Kippax. I was instantly hooked. He then bought me a season ticket for the Kippax, until we moved grounds to COMS.

2) What is your favourite City moment of all time/most treasured memory?

Without a doubt Aguero’s winner against QPR to lift the league title 2012. Probably one of the best moments of my whole life.

3) If you could bring back a former City player into this team who would it be and why?

I liked Kinkladze, he was tricky and skilful and exciting to watch. I was a big fan. But I was obsessed with Niall Quinn back in the day - I loved his spirit.

4) Manuel Pellegrini, Your opinion please?

I think he’s understated (which is good). I was very upset to see Mancini leave but I understand the decision now. Pellegrini is clearly excellent and has a record in Europe. I trust the owners to make the right choices. Although I was angry when Mancini was despatched. It felt brutal. But that is business I suppose.

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best moment - I think it was a few really - the run up to the title was incredible and unexpected. So when we got results at West Brom and Palace I was elated. and then of course Everton, who’ve always been our bogey side…the last game was slightly anti-climatic if I’m honest (although I was nervous at the start of it!). Always great to see Utd doing so badly haha. Loved the banter. Worst moment - I think what has been most upsetting has been the actions of Yaya Toure/Yaya Toure’s agent. That has been a real disappointment for me.

6) Transfers have already been made, but anyone else you would like to come in?

I like Robben, but understand about the contractual/finance problems. But I’m not sure we need much help now…I think there has been so much transition in recent seasons; it is time to bring unity to the team to ensure they play to their full potential as a team. I think this takes time. It’s not all about new expensive signings.

7) Any players you would happily drive to his new club?

I love them all! I think I was scared for Demichelis when he arrived but the boss’s faith in him paid off. He is a sound player and he didn’t lose confidence, which is admirable.

8) Favourite current player?

As always, David Silva. His play - passing, awareness, deftness of touch - , professionalism, attitude, spirit…I love Silva and have done since his arrival at City. Yep he’s not strong/big and I wish he could score more goals, but he’s got heart and I think he’s amazing!

9) Any players that have been let go this summer that you would have liked to stay?

No - I’m happy. If Toure goes, that’s him…it’s down to him. I just won’t be able to accept how he left the club. It’s a real shame after what he has achieved and how much devotion and respect he has had from the fans. Personally, I’d like him to go. I don’t think we need divas in the team - it’s not the Yaya Toure Show, it’s Man City.

10) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

My favourite player in the world is Ronaldo. The way he single-handedly destroyed us in the Champions League (September 2012) still haunts me to this day. I think he’s the best in the world on his day. For City I love Silva and he is my favourite player. In the past I have admired Niall Quinn for the reason that he was so determined to work on his passing/control when he arrived from Arsenal. He spent lots of time in the gym one - on -one to improve his first touch so he wouldn’t only be known for his heading and being the target man. I admire determination & commitment. I loved Rosler, as he was a great guy as well. Paul Lake was a big favourite, as was Kinkladze (already mentioned). I loved Paul Dickov, again for his spirit probably and Craig Bellamy was exemplary in these terms. More recently, I love James Milner simply because he gives so much in terms of fitness and he never gives in. I love players who give 120% every time they are out there. Ooops I forgot Shaun Goater.

11) And finally, What are your expectations for the new season?

New season: expectations are high (as they tend to be these days!). I am hearing all this stuff from Utd fans about what a great team they are going to have. This makes me laugh as they are expecting everything to come together all at once…for me, teams are built through hard work and training and playing together week in week out. I expect Chelsea to be up there, Arsenal top 5, Liverpool won’t capitalise on last season’s good fortune. I hope hope hope City can win the PL by a few points and, more importantly, reach the final stages of the Champions League. CITY! Blue Army!
