Not In My Lifetime Fans Interview: Neil Brownhill
Thursday, 10th Jul 2014 09:06

Neil Brownhill joins us for another of our Not In My Lifetime interviews.

1)When did you become a City fan and why?

I guess I'm like a lot of City fans over the years, in that, I've always been a City fan as long as I can remember. There was no "road to Damascus" experience, or "need to choose", it was always City.
I think my dad signed me up for the Junior Blues before he'd even registered my birth.
I know my dad used to take me as a small child to reserve games, so that I could get used to the noise and amount of people, before my 1st season ticket at Maine Road many decades ago.

2) What is your favourite City moment of all time/most treasured memory?

I guess it has to be the 2014 FA Cup final. I guess your readers will wonder why ?
Well my Nephew was born a very poorly baby, and let's just say the prognosis was not good.
Almost 10 years later (thanks to a lot of Prayer and Great Ormond Street Hospital), that same boy was David Silva's mascot at Wembley !!!
So I guess for obvious reasons, seeing young Reuben alive and well, means all the world to me.

3) If you could bring back a former City player into this team who would it be and why?

After decades of watching City, I'd like to see Big Joe Corrigan back in goals. His sheer presence would scare the life out of the modern day footballer.

4) Manuel Pellegrini, Your opinion please?

The Engineer. As a 'time-served' blue, it's natural that we should panic if we go a goal down, and we fear an inevitable humiliating result. However, Pellegrini brings a sense of calm, an assurance that he has everything worked out, he has a plan.
He's a complete contrast to the endless characters we've seen at City (Ball, Alinson, Bond even Keegan), I like Pellegrini, I like security.

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

The best moment was the full time whistle and that sense of relief that we didn't throw it away. The worst moment was the 90 minutes before the final whistle !

6) Transfers have already been made, but anyone else you would like to come in?

Against public opinion, I'd be happy to see YaYa's replacement bought in. I don't mean sell YaYa, but to gently remind his agent / spokesperson that these endless stories are actually ruining his reputation and commercial value. Failing that, perhaps we could provide a copy of Aesop's Fable about 'the boy who cried wolf' to his agent !!

7) Any players you would happily drive to his new club?

That's a tough one. Can I opt-out of that question, and offer to drive David Moyes back to Old Trafford ??

8) Favourite current player?

David Silva all the way. He's not a football player, he is a football magician !!!
His movements off the ball, his positioning and passing are, in my opinion, the best in the world.

9) Any players that have been let go this summer that you would have liked to stay?

I like Pantilimon. He never did anything wrong, other that play 2nd fiddle to the marvellous Joe Hart.

10) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

1st Hero Dennis Tueart, also obviously our Big Joe Corrigan.
I always enjoyed players like Ali Banarbia, but I'm not sure if it's because he gave us some pleasure in the bad times, or because he have the fans something to chant about. Dickov, Kinkladze, Morrison etc also feature, as a lot of players from that era served us well.

11) And finally, What are your expectations for the new season?

I fear that with FFP limiting our spending and other clubs free of such restrictions and being able to spend like mad, mean it could be a challenging season for us. So, in no particular order:
Top 3 in the Prem
FA Cup
League (Rumbelows or whatever) cup Semi Final
Champions League Quarter Final
