Super Sergio Stuns Bayern
Wednesday, 26th Nov 2014 11:49

It wasn't even the most famous injury time goal for Aguero but it was still a special moment. Aguero's stunning hat trick made the diffrence as City came from behind to beat 10 man Bayern in last night's all important Champions League fixture at Eastlands. The evening started with both sets of fans booing the UEFA anthemin response to their handling of the punishment that was dished out to CSKA Moscow for the behaviour of their fans which left many City and Bayern fans out of pocket when their home games were forced to be played behind closed doors.

City started brightly and when Aguero was brought down by Medhi Benatia he struck from the spot to put them in the lead. Benatia was shown a red for the challenge.

Bayern quickly readjusted to the loss of a man, with Rode sacrificed for Dante and Alonso commanding more of the ball to dictate play.

Lewandowski was brought down by Mangala on the edge of the box after 40 minutes and Alonso caught Hart unawares by calmly stroking a low shot past the wall and into the bottom corner.

City were behind before they had time to regroup as their former player Jerome Boateng, scorer against them in September, again undid them.

Boateng floated in a cross that dipped over Vincent Kompany and Lewandowski outmuscled Bacary Sagna to send the ball looping into the net off his shoulder.

City rallied with Navas shooting at Manuel Neuer and James Milner going close.
Lampard brought the best out of Neuer as the Germany World Cup-winning goalkeeper produced a fine one-handed save to deny the former England midfielder from the edge of the area.
Substitute Pablo Zabaleta had an effort blocked and Kompany stabbed wide after going forward for a corner.

t was a rare mistake by Alonso with five minutes left that was a turning point. His slack pass was intercepted by Stevan Jovetic and Aguero ran onto the loose ball before slotting a left-foot finish in the corner to make it 2-2.

Aguero then pounced on a poor touch from Bayern defender Jerome Boateng to run through and shoot low past Manuel Neuer for the winner, at the same end of the Etihad where he won the Premier League title for City with an injury-time goal on the last day of the 2011-12 season.

"This team never knows it is beaten," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said.
