EA Sports Player Performance Index : Everton Vs Man City
Friday, 9th Jan 2015 21:13

Everton continued their run of indifferent form on New Year’s Day as they went down 2-0 to Hull at the KC Stadium. First half goals from Nikica Jelavic and Ahmed Elmohamady were enough to see Roberto Martinez’s men leave with nothing to show for their efforts and they face a tough task at home to City this weekend.

Fullback Seamus Coleman may be more well known for his defensive ability and intelligent positioning, but his knack for getting into smart positions higher up the pitch is an impressive part of his overall game. According to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, he has the best shot accuracy rate of any player in the Toffees squad, hitting the target with 85.7% of his seven attempts. Coleman is 8/1 with 888sport.com to score at any time this weekend.

With so many of the plaudits being lauded on more attacking colleagues like Ross Barkley, it’s easy to underestimate the impact that James McCarthy has made since arriving from Wigan. His assured distribution and tireless defensive work has dovetailed nicely with the likes of Barkley and fellow holding man Gareth Barry to good effect. As well as breaking through the 100-barrier for total defensive contributions (block, interceptions, clearances, tackles won)(100) during the last round of fixtures, he’s also completed 369 passes in the opponent’s half, the fourth highest total in the Everton squad behind only Barry, Barkley and Leighton Baines.

It’s no surprise to see Gareth Barry’s stats putting him so prominently at the front of Everton’s efforts this season, anyone looking at the sheer amount of distance covered by the former Manchester City man would have expected such a result. According to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, he’s covered more ground than any other Everton playing this season, racking up a total of 198,169m.

Manchester City had to work hard for their points against Sunderland in dismal conditions at the Etihad last time out in the league. They eventually came out on tope 3-2 thanks to goals from Yaya Toure, Stevan Jovetic and a winner from the ever-green Frank Lampard.

Midfield maestro David Silva looks as though he has been approaching some of his best form in recent weeks, a no doubt welcome sight for both Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City fans alike. He’s now completed 615 passes in the opponents half this season, at an average rate of one every 1.87 minutes he’s been on the pitch this term according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. Silva is 13/5 with 888sport.com to get himself on the scoresheet at any time this weekend.

Despite an initially shaky start to life at the Etihad Stadium, Eliaquim Mangala has adapted quickly to the challenges of the Barclays Premier League to establish himself as, statistically speaking, one of Manchester City’s best defenders this season. He’s

now won an excellent 77.1% of his 35 challenges, the best rate of any player in the City squad.

Midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure is another who has started to return form in recent fixtures, seeing his goal total rise to seven in the league for the season. According to his stats though, he is on the verge of going on a real scoring tear if he can improve his clinicalness in front of goal. He’s had the second highest number of attempts on goal (46), behind only Sergio Aeguero on 56, however he has been off target with 27 of those attempts. Clearly the big Ivorian is getting into plenty of good positions and should he start to test opposition ‘keepers more then goals will surely follow.
