Pompey boss speaks of pride after leaders are held
Pompey boss speaks of pride after leaders are held

Pompey turned in one of their finest performance of the season to secure a 0-0 draw away to League Two leaders Chesterfield - and weren't far off taking all three.

Richie Barker's men carved out most of the clear-cut chances and could easily have nicked it - with the Spireites testing Trevor Carson only rarely.

The win moved Pompey up to 15th and means they have now lost just three of their last 13.

Barker told The News afterwards: ‘I am extremely proud. I said some pretty strong words nine days ago and was quite right to do so. Just as I was disappointed that night, I am equally as proud of them tonight, if not more.

‘They were some of the best chances we created over the last couple of weeks.

‘The fact we defended the way we did and created the chances as well is very pleasing. We didn’t come here to set up for a 0-0, far from it, and I think the number of chances we created showed that. We made sure we were difficult to beat and the players were excellent.’

Next up it's two home games for Pompey - they host Cheltenham on Saturday and Burton next Tuesday.
