Andy Awford has heaped praise on one of the heroes of Pompey's turn-around in fortunes - Wes Fogden.

The midfielder has been superb in Awford's first two games as caretaker, which have resulted in wins over Newport and Hartlepool.

The boss told The News: ‘Wes got a standing ovation when he came off on Saturday. That was because of the effort, work-rate and application.

‘He got on the ball and played. We asked him to do some defensive work as well. That was key to stopping Hartlepool playing. Then he runs forward as well. He’s been great for me.’

Awford has also praised Ryan Taylor for the way he has operated as the only out-and-out striker, with Fogden, Ricky Holmes and Jed Wallace supporting him.

The manager has not ruled out a change in fomation at Dagenham on Saturday.
