Trevor Carson has spoken of his desire to stay at Pompey and be part of the upward journey he feels sure is about to happen at Fratton Park.

The goalkeeper told The News: 'I would stay if I had the chance and if I am not here next season I would be advising people to stick a fiver on Pompey to get promoted. You feel around the place that it’s ready to take off.

‘I’m not saying it’s a good thing we haven’t gone up this year, but maybe this was a year too soon. I just think we are ready to go next season and whoever is here will take off big time.

‘I had a discussion with Awfs a couple of weeks ago and he said he likes me, which is good to know. It was a one-on-one. When he took over he called everyone in and had a chat. In the last conversation I said: “You get your side sorted and then if you want to speak I am obviously more than willing to sign”.

‘We will see what happens, I don’t want to be one of the more than 900 on the scrapheap scratching around for a contract, so it would be great if something can come of it. You hear from your agent there are other clubs watching, rumours everywhere, but I don’t want to keep my options open. I want to stay at Pompey, it’s as simple as that.

‘If a contract was on the table tomorrow and right for me and my family I would sign it, I don’t want to go anywhere else. Hopefully, I can stay and be part of the journey which is no doubt going to happen.’
