Former boss set for Pompey reunion

Pompey are heading for a reunion or two with Michael Appleton after he landed the job of Oxford manager.

The man who managed Pompey from November 2011 to November 2012 before leaving for Blackpool has taken over at the Kassam Stadium after Gary Waddock was sacked.

The appointment of Appleton, 38, forms part of a restructuring of the club.

Pompey head to Oxford on August 23 while United come to Fratton on August 28.

Appleton looks set to get a mixed reaction from Pompey fans, many of whom appreciated what he did during a turnbulent year at the club but were unimpressed at his quick exit to Blackpool, which came a day after he had swerved questions about his Fratton future.
