Pompey fail to poke Stoke out of the cup Wednesday, 27th Aug 2014 23:49 by pompey-fans.com staff Pompey are out but not down after battling well but losing 3-0 at Stoke in the Capitol One Cup second round at the Britannia Stadium. Jonathan Walters scored twice and former Fratton striker Peter Crouch headed a third late on. Keeper Paul Jones was Pompey's star man and kept the score down with some excellent stops. The Pompey side was much-changed from the one who won at Oxford on Saturday and there were surprise starts for Johnny Ertl and Nick Awford in midfield. Ricky Holmes went closest for Pompey but they couldn't break through and are left to concentrate on the league and, next week, the JP Trophy.
