Another long Pompey trip... another stalemate
Another long Pompey trip... another stalemate

Oh for a goal! Pompey might have kept a third clean sheet in four games at York, but a second successive blank of their own cancelled out any pride at their defensive strength.

You'd have got long odds on an Andy Awford side going 180 minutes without scoring when they were knocking themin for fun at the end of last season, but now they need to rediscover that winning mentality quickly.

It was no classic at Bootham Crescent but Pompey had a couple of decent late opportunities to win it, with Jed Wallace and Danny Hollands spurning the openings.

City missed one or two golden chances of their own and in truth neither side could complain at the final scoreline.

One worry for Pompey was the sight of defender Jack Whatmough limping off in the first half.

Awford remains upbeat about Pompey's efforts, saaying: 'They've had a couple of chances, but so have we. We had the more clear-cut chances, but they've missed an absolute sitter at the end - but that's the good fortune we needed.

'I was absolutely delighted with the performance, I thought we were really good. We controlled the game for long spells and we saw off any spell of pressure they threw at us. We're just missing that goal, and, when we get one, we'll probably go on and get two or three.'
