Who's in for a Pompey tonking?
Who's in for a Pompey tonking?

Pompey are going to give someone a 'tonking', their manager says. But will that fate be suffered by Northampton in the JP Trophy at Fratton Park this evening?

The Blues have scored only once in their last three games and not at all in their last two and boss Andy Awford says the whole team must take responsibility for ending the drought.

He remains convinced the goals will come.

Awford told The News: 'Against York I would have backed Jed Wallace going through and scoring. Danny Hollands of last year would have got a couple and there were a few from set-pieces we haven’t managed to convert.

‘It is easy to say if we are not scoring goals it’s the forwards’ fault — it’s not. It’s like because we are keeping clean sheets it is credit to the goalkeeper and defence, it’s a unit. I know it is an old cliche but it really is a team thing.

‘Saturday was the best we played away from home since Yeovil in my opinion. I thought (Ryan) Taylor was good coming on. It opened it up for us, definitely. And the amount of chances we create, someone is going to a get a tonking, they really are.’

Awford will make changes tonight - but is not happy at JPT rules which dictate how many new faces he can bring in.
