Pompey v Mansfield ... it's not England v San Marino
Pompey v Mansfield ... it's not England v San Marino

Andy Awford says there are no England v San Marino-type games in League Two - but insists Pompey have plenty of winnable games ahead of them as they look to improve on ninth place in the table.

They host Mansfield this weekend on the back of successive 0-0 draws at Hartlepool and York. Pompey have lost at home only once in the league.

Awford told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We’ve had a decent run in the league — four unbeaten and three clean sheets. The form at Fratton has been excellent and I’ve been really pleased with how we’ve played here.

'It was disappointing to lose on Tuesday night, but the league is our bread and butter. With performance levels and results, it’s been a really good start and we want that to continue against Mansfield. If we’re at it then I expect us to win.

'There’s a confidence in the squad that we’re building something here — I can sense that from the players and around the club. We’ve worked so hard to create a good spirit in the group and we’ve certainly got that here.'

The team news is mixed. Joe Devera should feature after a stomach bug, while Michael Drennan will require a late fitness test on his calf. Ben Chorley has returned to training after a calf injury, but won't play this weekend, while Adam Webster will also miss out because of a knee injury sustained in the JP Trophy loss to Northampton.
