Pompey happy with Hampshire pairing in FA Cup

Pompey boss Andy Awford declared himself delighted to be paired in the FA Cup with a club with whom the Blues have a special relationship.

The Blues will host Aldershot in the first round as they bid to make progress in the competition for the first time since 2010.

They'll be joined by Gosport and Havant in the first round - both are at home to League One opposition, in the form of Colchester and Preston.

Awford told The News: ‘I’m happy with the draw. It’s a home game against a Hampshire side but we certainly won’t be taking them lightly.

'I’m also really pleased for our local non-league friends. I just think it’s fantastic for the area that Gosport and Hawks — if they can get through their replay — have got big ties against some proper clubs.

‘We will be favourites as we are the team from the higher division. Aldershot will bring a few fans and it will be a good atmosphere at Fratton Park. Adam Webster and Dan Butler have been on loan there and we’ve got a very good relationship with Aldershot. We’re looking forward to it.’

* Goals by Ben Close and Dan Butler earned Pompey Reserves a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
