Defender's back ... and Cup tie is put back
Defender's back ... and Cup tie is put back

Jack Whatmough has given Pompey a boost by indicating he is fit to return to Andy Awford's side.

The young defender has missed the last month with a hamstring problem but fared well in the reserves' 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Reserves boss Alan McLoughlin told The News: 'Jack played 61 minutes, it was key he did and he is okay. At times you could see it was his first game back but that’s fine.

‘Thankfully we are in the reserve league, otherwise he wouldn’t have a game and then you are relying on a training session and it doesn’t quite replicate a game situation. Your thought processes are over an hour and there are stop-standstill issues in training, such as having a drink after working hard for 10 minutes.

‘Tuesday was important for him and he will get the benefit of that.'

Meanwhile, Pompey's FA Cup tie at home to Aldershot has been switched to Sunday, November 9, as one of eight games to be played that day, apparently at the wishes of the BBC.

The move has puzzled many as the game now clashes with Gosport's home tie with Colchester. Ticket prices will be similar to those in place for league games.
