Did Pompey's poor away form just actually get worse?
Did Pompey's poor away form just actually get worse?

Another Jed Wallace goal proved to be no more than false hope for Pompey as a second half fightback at Prenton Park fizzled out and ended in yet another depressing away defeat.

Wallace's 58th-minute shot from the edge of the area cancelled out Shamir Fenelon's second-minute opener for Rovers.

At that point you'd have said Pompey were the more likely side to go on and win it, against a side whose confidence must have been fragile with only one win from nine home games so far.

But no, this Pompey away team is, it seems, worse than a poor Tranmere home team and Andy Awford's ended up losing 3-1.

James Rowe and Max Power added Rovers' second and third to make it five straight away defeats for Pompey, a record that will have to improve dramatically in the second half of the campaign if they are to harbour any hopes of a play-off push.

Awford told The News after the game: ‘When it went 1-1 it looked like only one team going to go on and win it — and it looked like it was going to be us. We got back into the game after conceding so early and then thrown it away again. It is very frustrating, of course it is.'

Pompey have a fortnight to stew on it before their next game, at home to Accrington on December 13.
