I respect Pompey's decision - but it's disappointing

Miles Storey has expressed his disappointment at being shown the door by Pompey.

The loanee forward has returned to Swindon as Andy Awford trims his troops ahead of an expected January arrival or two.

Storey was philosophical about the loan ending and told The News: ‘It’s the Marmite effect, I get that wherever I go, there is no in-between. It’s the way I play, either it works or it doesn’t and it tends to divide fans of the clubs I play for.

‘When I have come in and played for Pompey I have tried to be direct, that’s the way I play. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it does not. In my mind at least it is something different.

‘But I was disappointed to leave Pompey to be honest, even though I knew the manager had decisions to make because there were too many players. He told me he was looking for more experience in terms of attacking. He probably could have found room for me in and around the squad but I would not play as much as I would have liked to.

‘That was fair enough, I prefer him to be honest with me like that and we both agreed. I respect the decision and am appreciative of the time I’ve had at Pompey and the experience I’ve got under my belt.'

Meanwhile winger Ricky Holmes has said he hopes his loan move to Northampton does not spell the end of his time at Fratton.
