Pompey's new-look strikeforce is complete following the arrival of Paul McCallum.

The 21-year-old from West Ham is likely to partner Matt Tubbs up front at home to Burton and can't wait to get started in his new surroundings.

Andy Awford has beaten off competition from other League Two clubs for his services on loan after being impressed by his willingness to #get his hands dirty' by playing for a number of lower-league clubs.

McCallum told the PFC website: 'I had a few offers from other League Two clubs, but none of them could match the stature of Pompey. It was a very easy decision for me to make to come here and I’m looking forward to making my debut.

'I like to get hold of the ball and bring others into play. The club have just signed Matt Tubbs and I think I can work well with him. I was on loan at Wimbledon a while ago and always keep an eye out for their results, so I’ve seen that he did very well there in the first half of the season.

'I know that I can score goals at this level because I’ve done it in the past — hopefully I can get started on Saturday.'

Meanwhile the long and drawn-out David Connolly saga is over. The striker, who has not played for the first team in well over a year after falling out of favour, agreed with the club that his contract could be cancelled early. He has joined AFC Wimbledon - 14 years after he first became a Don.
