Pompey take point but are left to wonder at Wycombe

That's more like it. That has to be the feeling after Pompey had the better of a 0-0 draw away to the morning's leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

It was the fourth successive away game in which Andy Awford's team have played well - though it's the fact they've won none of those four that has left them a little too close to the bottom two for comfort.

But this was a big improvement on the home defeat to Southend.

Awford made six changes and switched to a 3-5-2 system. Josh Passley came in at right-back, while there were also starting spots for Ben Chorley, Jack Whatmough, Dan Butler, Danny Hollands and Ryan Taylor.

Pompey were by far the better side in the first half and Ben Chorley and Matt Tubbs - the latter on several occasions - went close to giving them a deserved lead.

After being under pressure for much of the first half, Wycombe were close to gaining an interval lead when Joe Jacobson struck a shot that beat Paul Jones and came back off the bar.

After the break it was a more even tussle but Tubbs again, Jed Wallace and Ryan Taylor were all close to a priceless Pompey goal.

Wycombe came on strong in the latter stages but it would have been a travesty had they nicked the points.

Pompey: Jones, Chorley, (Devera 89), Robinson, Whatmough, Passley, Dunne, Wallace, Hollands, Butler, Tubbs (Ertl 90+2), Taylor. Subs not used: Poke, Atangana, Barcham, Westcarr, Chaplin.

Referee: Andy D’Urso

Attendance: 5,829 (1,550 Pompey fans)
