Pompey have certainly looked a better - and different - side of late, but who saw this coming? They scored as many away league goals as they have all season in one glorious afternoon at the Abbey Stadium.

Matt Tubbs (3), Jed Wallace, Paul Robinson and Ryan Taylor got the goals in a scintillating attacking performance from the Blues that was too hot for the U's to handle.

The victory lifted Pompey to 14th and sets them up nicely for two home games in five days, both against sides below them in the table, Tranmere and Oxford.

Wallace got the Pompey ball rolling after two minutes, carrying on where he had left off against Exeter with a very similar goal as he cut in from the left and hit a shot beyond Chris Dunn via a deflection.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, a former Pompey loanee, equalised midway through the first half after a quick Cambridge break, but the goal merely served to inspire Awford's men to better things.

Soon, Wallace turned provider to play in Tubbs for a neat finish and it was 3-1 on 33 minutes when Robinson pounced to convert the rebound after Wallace's shot was saved.

Cambridge missed a couple of half-chances before Pompey netted their fourth seconds before the break, Tubbs finishing clinically when a Wallace cross fell to him.

Robbie Simpson brought it back to 4-2 early in the second half but on 74 minutes Wallace took advantage of a defensive mix-up to tee up Taylor to poke home. It meant Wallace had been involved in all five goals.

Johnny Ertl came on for Danny Hollands and was involved in Pompey's sixth - seeing a shot deflected out to Taylor, whose cross was put away by that man Tubbs.

It was the first time since 1963 (at Orient) that Pompey had scored in a competitive away game and their travelling fans loved every minute, not least because it was their first League Two success on the road for six months.
