Wes Fogden has admitted he felt worthless while out of the Pompey picture injured.

The dynamic midfielder made his first appearance of the season when he came off the bench at Northampton, eight months after suffering a cruciate injury.

He couldn't help Pompey avoid defeat at Sixfields but most thought his comeback was the high point of the Blues' night.

Afterwards Fogden told Radio Solent: 'All you want to do when you're a pro footballer is to play football - that's your job. When you're not doing that job you feel a bit worthless, so to be back out there gives me a sense of living.

'Obviously, coming on at 1-0 down isn't ideal, but it was a chance to create something and get back level. Unfortunately I just missed the target, but hopefully next time it goes in the back of the net.'

Fogden will be pushing for a start when Pompey go to Accrington on Saturday.
