Pompey can't find Crowning glory
Pompey can't find Crowning glory

Some Pompey fans will be looking at half-full glasses after this - some half-empty. Another game unbeaten, or a wasted opportunity for a victory? You can make a case for both.

The Blues trailed, though only for four minutes, but failed to find a winner in 40 minutes playing against 10 men at the Crown Ground.

With James Dunne and Jack Whatmough back in the starting line-up, Pompey were back with the team who had done so well throughout February.

The first half was a fairly lively affair and both sides had early chances. Matt Tubbs was denied a timely Matt Crooks tackle and then forced keeper Scott Davies into action, while Josh Passley for Pompey and Josh Windass for Stanley both had efforts on goal.

Accrington took the lead on 16 minutes when Windass expertly converted a free-kick awarded for James Dunne's foul on Kal Naismith.

But Taylor soon levelled the scores when he converted from close range as keeper Davies failed to claim a Dan Butler corner.

Accrington had the lion's share of the chances in the remainder of the first half but just before the break, Butler rattled the bar with a sizzling free-kick.

Eight minutes after the break Anthony Barry was shown a red card for dangerous play in a challenge on Danny Hollands.

Wallace and Tubbs missed half-chances before Wes Fogden and Andy Barcham came on as Pompey looked to make their man advantage count.

Taylor, Paul Robinson and another sub, Craig Westcarr, each had a sniff of goal in the final 15 minutes and the last chance fell to Wallace, who hit the bar after beating two men on the edge of the area.

The draw leaves Pompey 10 points off the play-off zone with only 11 games - and a place in the end-of-season shake-up looks increasingly remote.

Next up for Pompey, it's Luton at Fratton Park next Saturday.
