Teddy Sheringham and Paul Cook are the latest names being talked about for the Pompey manager's job - but the Blues will face a battle if they want to prise Cook away from Chesterfield.

Sheringham is an interesting addition to an ever-lengthening list. The current West Ham forward coach could be out of a job if Sam Allardyce is forced out of a job at West Ham at the end of the season.

The News has reported that the former Fratton striker is among as many 70 realistic candidates to declare their interest in the role. The paper said sources close to Sheringham claimed he was ready to move into football management.

Cook, who has done an excellent job at Chesterfield, is one of the bookies' favourites to take over from Awford but Spireites CEO Chris Turner told The News: 'There has been no contact from Portsmouth and, as far as I know, Paul is happy to be here and doing a great job.

'His record since arriving here is second to none. We are delighted with him and are not surprised other clubs get linked with him. It was Wigan last week, it was somebody else the week before. Whenever people lose their jobs, clubs are going to look to who is doing well. Paul Cook is doing extremely well.'
