Goal man Tubbs isn't happy with what he's got

Matt Tubbs is already of scoring the goals that can lead Pompey to greater things next season.

Tubbs scored nine goals for Pompey, and 21 League Two goals in total, to claim the division's golden boot. But with a typical striker's outlook, he is not settling for that.

He told The News: 'On a personal basis, it has been my best season in the Football League and, hopefully, next season we can do better and get promotion. I was joint top-scorer in the Conference and then the following season won it outright — now I’ve got the golden boot in League Two.

‘I’ve had a couple of weeks now looking over my shoulder wondering if they were going to catch me and I’m glad I got my nose in front, and scoring against York sealed it. After the final whistle I was checking out the other games and had a little look at half-time as well, I wanted to know what was needed!

‘However, with the team that played on Saturday I will always get chances and, hopefully, can finish them off. I’ve scored nine goals for Pompey and am relatively happy about that.

‘I’ve obviously had chances I’ve missed and will probably look back on it in the next couple of weeks and think “What if that had gone in”. It’s hindsight. I’m happy I’ve now got a golden boot in the Football League and, importantly, I’m happy with the way we have been playing over the last couple of weeks. From a personal point of view, my goal haul this season will give me more confidence next year.’
