One of Paul Cook's first jobs as Pompey boss may see him fighting off Oxford's bid for striker Ryan Taylor.

The new Fratton manager has reportedly already got a good idea of which out-of-contract players he wants to keep and which he is happy to move on.

Taylor is thought be most to be one of those he'd prefer to give a new contract to, but Oxford boss Michael Appleton is keen on the lanky forward.

The 26-year-old scored 10 goals and struck up a good understanding with Matt Tubbs, and along with the likes of Adam Webster, Dan Butler and Wes Fogden would appear to be a player who has done enough to warrant a new deal.

But Cook may have his own ideas about the existing squad and the need to overhaul it, and is already being linked with a bid for Doncaster's goalscoring midfielder Kyle Bennett, 24.
