Former Rangers forward Kai Naismith is Pompey's latest new recruit.

The 23-year-old joins from Accrington for an undisclosed fee as Paul Cook continues what appears to be a no-nonsense rebuilding of the squad.

He follows Doncaster's goalscoring midfielder Kyle Bennett into Fratton and is excited at his move.

Naismith told The News: ‘The deal came about about a week ago. There was other interest but once I knew Pompey wanted me it was the only place I wanted to go. I’m delighted a club like Pompey were interested in me.’

Another member of the squad out to impress Cook is James Dunne, who is hoping to build on a bright first season at Pompey.

Dunne told The News: ‘I haven’t spoken to the new manager yet. I’m sure that will happen before we get back or it may happen when we all report back for pre-season.

‘He might bring us in before to meet up or just wait until we all come back. It’s not a problem. When you get a new manager in, it’s a blank sheet for everyone and you have to take your chance.

‘I remember when I was at Stevenage, the manager got sacked, the new manager came in and we didn’t get on. That’s football for you. But everyone has got a clean slate. There will be plenty of competition for places when we get back and I’m looking forward to it.’
