Pompey's new assistant manager says there's plenty of work going on behind the scenes to bring in new players - but fans must be prepared to bide their time before welcoming more new faces to Fratton.

Leam Richardson knows Kyle Bennett and Kai Naismith won't be the only two nwew arrivals following Paul Cook's switch to the Blues but says not all deals will happen overnight.

‘There are a number of players we would like to speak to and work with again,' he told The News. 'There will be a lot of names bandied around, especially for a good club like Portsmouth.

‘We’ve been lucky enough to do well over the past couple of years (at Chesterfield) and some of those players who played for us will be linked with moves to Portsmouth. Sometimes you’ve got to be patient and you’ve got to be able to bide your time to get the players you want.

‘We’ve got two players in so far and there will definitely be others. It’s just a matter of when and you never really know when things may happen.’

He added: ‘I suppose it is a bit like a poker game sometimes. It’s been exactly as you would expect at this time of year to be honest. The market in May is very different to the one in July.

‘It’s an ongoing process. ‘There are a lot of good players out there and we expect to be able to field a competitive team in League Two for next season.’
