Fast, free-flowing football will come to Pompey now Paul Cook has taken over as manager.

So says the man he has brought with him as first-team coach, Ian Foster, who told The News he was excited about the challenges ahead for the new backroom team at Fratton.

He said: 'With Paul you can expect to have honesty, integrity, transparency and you will be able to see his philosophy. If you are a Portsmouth fan and it is 2pm on a Saturday and you are thinking of going to Fratton Park and wondering what you might get, well I don’t think you’ll have to wonder any more.

‘You will know exactly what you are going to get. You will be able to identify Paul’s teams and if that’s the kind of football you like, which I am sure most fans do, you will appreciate it.

‘It was evident when we were both managers in Ireland. Paul likes to play fast, free-flowing, attacking football. Above all, what you want to be associated with is winning football — and he is.

‘It’s not just about having this passing philosophy and creative philosophy, it is also winning. He has developed a style of football, but he is also successful with it.

‘You cannot win every game of football. But we are certainly trying to win every game in the right manner, trying to entertain the supporters. It has been a trying time for everyone at the football club and I appreciate that, but the club has recruited Paul, Leam and I to come in and change that culture.

‘It is not going to happen overnight. But one thing we won’t lack is the hard work to turn it around and bring the success everyone is after.’

Pompey find out their League Two fixture list next Wednesday, a day after the Capitol One Cup R1 draw is made.
