Pompey's two new Adams have been tipped to be big hits at Fratton.

Forward/attacking midfielder Adam McGurk has joined from Burton while midfield man Adam Barton has made the switch from Coventry.

The Burton Mail's Tom sloan told The News McGurk was a useful player, saying: 'Adam is a very talented player and in the last two years was one of the best players Burton have had. It would be fair to say he is inconsistent, which has driven fans up the wall, and has never been particularly popular because of that.

‘That in itself is a shame because he is a gifted performer. He creates, is a good finisher, and although doesn’t really have any pace it does not detract from his game. Some people think he is lazy and a bit of a luxury player, but just because he doesn’t go around putting the big hits in doesn’t mean he won’t have an impact.'

There are also high hopes that Barton will fit in well to the Pompey squad, not least from Barton himself.

He told The News: ‘The way Paul Cook sets up his teams and the way he has spoken to me about how he wants to play is exactly the same philosophy. I cannot argue on that front. I played in a holding role a lot in Tony Mowbray’s 4-2-3-1 towards the end of last season. I am very familiar with it and it is my position at the end of the day.'

Pompey's first friendly - at Havant - is a fortnight away today.
