Gareth Evans has impressed since starting a trial at Pompey -and now the winger has signed, he believes he can carry on improving.

The 27-year-old former Fleetwood wideman is Paul Cook's 11th signing of the summer.

He told The News: ‘The club have been in talks with myself and my representative for the last four or five days so I am glad to get it over the line now and can concentrate on knuckling down and playing well.

‘I’ve played against the manager and Leam Richardson a fair few times over the years, they knew what I was about, but obviously wanted me to come in and see what sort of shape I was in.

‘They told me if I did well they would look after me and get me signed — and it has worked out well. So far it has just been a case of getting used to the way the manager likes to play, I had played in the diamond formation for the last two years at Fleetwood.

‘And I am confident my performances are going to keep getting better and better.’

Pompey are next in action at Gillingham on Saturday.
