Pompey were only likely winners at Wycombe, says Stevens

You can look at Pompey's draw at Wycombe one of two ways - that their poor first half-hour cost them the chance of three points, or that their better last hour was a creditable comeback from 2-0 down.

Most in the Pompey camp seem to be taking the latter, more positive view, although no-one is hiding from the fact the opening third of the match produced a Pompey performance that was simply not good enough.

Enda Stevens felt the fightback showed the character in the squad and said they were the only team who looked like winning once Adam Webster had headed in the goal that made it 2-2.

The left-back told the Pompey website: 'We were just slow to get going, while Wycombe started the game very well. We were sitting deep in our own half and finding it difficult to get out and we were punished for that.

'Thankfully, we came back to life in the last few minutes of the first half and got a good goal through Lavs. That meant we went in for half-time feeling confident that we could still get something from the game.

'We just had to relax, calm ourselves down and refocus to make sure we were ready for the second half. We’ve got a lot of character in the changing room and we showed that in the second half, when there was only one team who looked like winning.'

Pompey take a break from league action this weekend when they host Accrington in the second round of the FA Cup.
