Pompey chief gives Lavery verdict
Pompey chief gives Lavery verdict

Pompey fans should not get their hopes up of seeing Caolan Lavery again - but the Blues have not given up on the Sheffield Wednesday striker.

The 23-year-old scored four goals in 13 games and struck up an excellent partnership with Marc McNulty when on loan at Fratton.

Fans were disappointed when Lavery returned to Yorkshire in January but Fratton chief executive Mark Catlin said a return to Pompey for the striker was not out of the question as Paul Cook remained keen on him. That said, it does seem unlikely to happen in the near future.

Catlin told The News: ‘The ball is in their (Sheff Wed's) court, as it has been for a while. Paul has looked to bring back Caolan and, backing our manager as we always do, we have explored that option.

‘However, it is entirely down to the player, his agent and the club. Let’s not forget, this is Sheffield Wednesday’s player and they can handle him as they see fit. We haven’t given up hope of bringing Caolan back, but it has proven to be difficult.’

Pompey without Lavery aim to get back on track at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. Cook is thought to have no new injury worries.
