Pompey's skipper should be in League Two line-up

Gary Roberts says Michael Doyle deserves to captain another team - the League Two line-up of the year.

Players are about to be asked to vote for their performers of the season so the PFA can unveil its division-by-division teams of the year.

Pompey could have one or two in the side having spent the whole season in the top group and Roberts thinks Doyle should be a shoo-in and should be the skipper. Rules mean players cannot vote for a team-mate, though.

Roberts told The News: ‘When you choose the PFA awards, the problem is you don’t see that much of other players. Of course, there are your obvious ones such as Kemar Roofe. Those who have scored a lot of goals in the season are always going to catch the eye, it is only natural I suppose.

‘The rules say you can’t pick any of your own players, but definitely Michael Doyle and a couple of the other lads should be in and around it. He would be in it as my captain. He has played superbly for us and shown a lot of consistency. He’s a leader and a man on and off the pitch.

‘I would hope he would be in the final list, but you never know. When somebody puts a piece of paper in front of you and tells you to choose, it is hard to pick, especially from League Two. Let’s face it, it’s not your greatest league in the world, you can’t easily pick Suarez, Messi and Neymar in there. You have to look deeper.'

Meanwhile Pompey's trip to AFC Wimbledon - postponed on Easter Monday because of a waterlogged pitch - will take place on Tuesday, April 26.

Pompey say they will announce in due course arrangements for people who have tickets but cannot now go.
