Pompey seem likely to start the new season at home - but are set to be on the road on Boxing Day.

Although the Football League fixtures are not out yet, the publication of Southampton's schedule for 2016-17 offers a few clues to when the Blues may be at home and away.

With Southampton at home on August 13, meaning Pompey are almost certain to be away on that day, that would seem to leave Paul Cook's team looking at a home match on the Football League opening day a week earlier.

Currently-managerless Southampton are at home on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, the latter being a Saturday, which would suggest back to back away games for Pompey on those dates.

And with Southampton away on the first two weekends of May, the likelihood of a home finish for the Blues looks strong.
