Curtis gets the call as Pompey take shape

Pompey head to Ireland with their squad taking shape nicely - with striker Curtis Main the latest addition to the ranks.

The 24-year-old has joined from Doncaster on a two-year deal, joining Michael Smith as a new forward in the squad as Paul Cook looks to guarantee his side will not be short of goals in their next bid to escape League Two.

Main told the Pompey website: 'I’m really happy and excited that it’s all been sorted and that I’m now a Pompey player. I had my first training session with the lads on Saturday. I already knew a few of them and the rest have all been brilliant, so I’ve settled in effortlessly.

'I’ve come here to hopefully achieve promotion and I think that has to be the aim when you join a club like this. The fans know that we belong at a higher level and I think everyone agrees with that, so we’re all working in the same direction.

'I can’t wait to play in front of such large and passionate crowds at Fratton Park — that was a big draw for me signing here.'

Pompey's first pre-season game is against Sligo on Wednesday.

The author of this articles optimism is overflowing just a little,
Just checked Curtis's stats , 28 goals in 9 seasons, that' an average of 3 goals a season in all competitions , ok its 28 goals in 208 appearances, which is still only 1 goal every 8 games, ( 5 a season), just exactly how are the goals going to flow again?
Coupled with Mike Smith whom we do know a little, scored 4 goals in 16 appearances last season for Pompey on loan, So I'll say this again, just exactly how are the goals going to flow again?
Sorry to be so pessimistic but most other teams have 15+ goals a season strikers in their teams and we do not, ipso facto, we are going to fall short again.
Why cant we poach/attract a decent striker from another club?

No Point talkabout CC, Cookie only rates him as an impact player to come on when all hope is lost and pompey heading for defeat,
