Burgess says Pompey can do better at the back
Sunday, 11th Sep 2016 22:35 by pompey-fans.com staff

Christian Burgess might have been part of a winning team as Pompey got the better of Wycombe, but he was harsh on the home side's defending that allowed the visitors to score twice.

The final score of 4-2 reflected a game in which neither defence was at its best and Burgess, who scored Pompey's first goal, told the club website: 'Wycombe play with plenty of runners off him up front and have got lots of experience, but we should have anticipated the second goal a bit better.

'I think that’s definitely something we’ll have to take a look at going forward and try to improve on.'

Burgess said: 'The ball looped up, I saw it and just thought that I had to throw myself at it. It came off my head and sometimes they go in, sometimes they don’t.

'It was a good game for the neutral! People took their chances and I’m delighted for Conor — what a goal that was. I thought the team were better against Crawley the previous week — and also from a personal point of view.

'But the important thing is that we’ve got the three points. We’re delighted to have them in the bag and now we move on to the next one. We’re on a good run of form at the moment, but it’s still very early in the season and we’re certainly not getting carried away.'

Next up for the Blues is a trip to Accrington next Saturday.
