Downing Donny would see Pompey put loss behind them

Curtis Main says victory over his old club Doncaster would be the perfect tonic for Pompey after their midweek letdown at Bloomfield Road.

The striker is battling for a starting spot after recovering from a head injury picked up against Wycombe three weeks ago and would love to face the club who let him go in the summer.

Pompey welcome Doncaster to town for what is arguably their biggest league game of the season so far - the sides are fourth and third and separated only by goals scored.

Main told the Pompey website: 'It’s a fixture that I’ve had an eye on ever since I left the club and came here. You always want to play against your former club. When a manager decides he doesn’t want you then it’s time to move on and thankfully I’ve come here to play for someone with a lot of belief in me.

'If I’m able to start or come off the bench then I’ll be looking to show that he made the right choice in bringing me here. I’m looking forward to it on a personal note, but we’ll also be collectively looking to put things right after Tuesday’s result.

'Picking up three points is always something you’re more determined to do after a disappointing outcome. Home form will always be key and I’ve enjoyed playing at Fratton Park — it’s a real privilege to experience such an amazing atmosphere.'

One or two changes are possible in the Pompey side after the 3-1 reverse at Blackpool with Tom Davies and Kal Naismith reckoned to be under threat from Matt Clarke and Milan Lalkovic.

Conor Chaplin has scored two in two since being given the nod to start up front and seems certain to keep his place.

Doncaster boss Darren Ferguson has no new injury concerns.
