Pompey's got talent - but can they prove it?
Friday, 21st Oct 2016 22:48 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey host Notts County this weekend hoping to return to the home form that saw them blow away Crawley, Wycombe and Barnet in September - before they slipped to a home loss to Doncaster on the first day of this month.

Anything like a repeat of the 4-0 win the Blues enjoyed over the Magpies on Good Friday would do and one player, Carl Baker, believes Paul Cook's team have the talent to get the better of teams on their home patch.

Baker told The News: ‘I feel the attacking players we’ve got, even the ones on the bench, are all good players. Me, Benno (Bennett) or Milan (Lalkovic), for example, we’re not just a right midfielder or a number 10.

‘We all drift and are difficult to mark. It doesn’t matter who you are playing against — it’s hard to mark. You’ll see me drifting one way, Gary (Roberts) drifting another and Benno going somewhere else.

‘Then you’ve Conor (Chaplin) dropping in and Gary going past. The movement’s difficult to handle. I think we’ve got the quality of players to realise that. We have to understand each other.

‘The more we play together the more we will understand each other better. We’re 13 games in and Benno’s come in for Milan at the moment. We’ve probably only played a few games together really.

‘Hopefully we can click like we’re starting to. ‘It happens in training and we’re unstoppable — but it’s what happens on a Saturday that matters. ‘Hopefully that quality can shine through.’

The Blues head into the weekend in fifth place but can only go up to fourth with a win. Notts County are 12th with five wins and five defeats from their first 13 and can go as high as the play-off zone if they are victorious.

Pompey have a full squad from which to select.
