I won't leave Pompey until I've done my best

Paul Cook brushed off talk linking him with a return to Chesterfield - saying he would not leave Pompey until he had done his best to deliver success.

Stories this week have suggested he could return to the midlands club, from where he joined the Blues, with some bookies making him favourite, but he shot down the story as he spoke to the press in the build-up to Saturday's home tussle with Leyton Orient.

He told the club website: 'There’s absolutely no story there and I really don’t know where it all comes from. I’ve been given tremendous backing at this club in order to deliver success and I won’t leave until I’ve done my best to achieve that.'

Cook is expecting a tough test against the O's and says all the Blues can do is keep trying to accrue points one game at a time.

He said: 'If we’re going to achieve our goals then there’s a certain number of points we’ll have to collect and the quicker you reach that, the quicker you’ll be successful. It looks a big mountain to climb at the moment, but every step you take will get you that bit nearer to the top.'
