Positive Pompey head for wounded Wycombe
Friday, 3rd Feb 2017 18:53 by pompey-fans.com staff

Paul Cook takes Pompey's promotion bid to Wycombe this weekend appealing to fans and players to pull in the same direction to help the club get out of League Two.

Last week's home defeat to Exeter was a big setback in the Blues' efforts to break into the automatic promotion spots, but they have another go at closing the gap on third place - and getting their noses in front of others in the play-off sports - at Adams Park.

Cook says staying positive is essential. He told The News: ‘I read the comments from Mark Catlin in the week and it’s something I agree with. It would be nice for everyone just to get behind the club, players and everyone for the final 19 games.

‘No matter what goes on at Wycombe tomorrow or Accrington after that, let’s try to get Portsmouth Football Club up together. Nowadays there is enough negativity around the world to last a lifetime for everyone.

‘The more positivity we can gain from everyone surrounding this club would be good.

‘We lose a game at Portsmouth and it is the end of the world — but it’s not the end of the world.‘The future success of the club is the important thing and how we get there, so let’s all work together.’

Transfer deadline day signings Eoin Doyle and Aaron Simpson are in the frame to come into the side up front and at right back. Cook also needs to consider whether to unleash either of his Hampton recruits. Jamal Lowe and Nicke Kabamba.

Wycombe sre smarting from a tough week - they lost 4-3 at Spurs in the FA Cup last weekend then went down 4-2 at Exeter on Tuesday, but remain very much part of the play-off race.

The fixture ended in a 2-2 draw last season.
