There's only one stat that matters for Pompey boss

Paul Cook admitted he was disappointed not to win a game in which Pompey were never up against it.

The boss felt the Blues should have killed off Morecambe - but said they now had to put the setback of the 1-1 draw behind them and try for three points when Crewe visit Fratton on Saturday.

He told the Pompey website: 'We haven’t come under any real pressure during the game, except for a couple of quick breakaways. In the first half we created a lot of chances and their keeper has had to make some great saves.

'We’ve got to put those opportunities away because we seemed to open them up quite regularly and there were a lot of attempts on goal. I’m sure the stats will show that to be the case, but the most important stat in football is the result and we didn’t get the one we wanted.

'Unfortunately, Christian (Burgess) made a horrendous decision and that’s the nervousness the lads can sometimes get. As disappointed as we are, we just have to move on because this is a tough and unforgiving league and every game is difficult.

'It’s another point towards where we want to be and we just have to keep believing in what we do. We couldn’t get the couple more that would have seen us in the top three and everyone would have been delighted, but perhaps we’ll have another opportunity on Saturday.'
