Pompey players have no reason to be flat
Pompey players have no reason to be flat

Paul Cook admitted he didn't mind the quality of some of Pompey's football as they beat relegation strugglers Newport 2-1.

It wasn't a case of the Blues at their best but goals by Kyle Bennett and Kal Naismith earned the points that carried them six points clear of fourth place.

Cook told the club website: 'The three points are huge against a side who were fighting for their lives and didn’t leave anything out on the pitch. There’s possibly an argument to say that they deserved a draw, but the most important thing is that we won the game.

'A massive well done to the lads and there are seven matches remaining now, with so much left to play for. They were a little bit flat in the dressing room after the final whistle, but they’ve got no reason to be.

'They’re all representing this club in a really good way at the minute and long may that continue. It’s going to be nervy at times, but we’ll keep going and try to give these fans the success they really want.

'So let’s just enjoy this result tonight and then we can focus on a difficult game at Hartlepool next week.'
