Can Pompey focus amid the party atmosphere?
Friday, 21st Apr 2017 19:53 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey welcome Cambridge to Fratton Park with the players insisting they want to claim as many points as they can in the final three games - but also admitting they are looking forward to three Pompey parties.

The Blues can still finish above Plymouth with a strong finish to their promotion-winning season - in fact Doncaster in top spot are not quite out of reach yet. But can the team focus on matters on the pitch after a celebratory week.

We will find out on Saturday afternoon but defender Christian Burgess told the club website they were determined to keep on accruing points.

He told the site: 'There was delight, relief and some great celebrations with the boys, as well as the staff and all the fans. It was an emotional moment when we realised we were up and that turned into those jubilant scenes on the pitch. I just wanted to soak it all in.

'Then we came off the coach at Fratton Park and everyone was waiting there, so we went to have a drink with them in the Victory Lounge. Everybody was so happy at what we accomplished and it’s certainly the biggest thing to happen in my career. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

'The scenes at our ground on Saturday should be fantastic and I’m sure they’ll be a celebratory atmosphere. It’ll be another party and then we’ll have another one at Mansfield and another one at the Cheltenham game!

'There are three games left and I know all the boys want to get as many points as we possibly can. It’s still possible to get second or we could have a miracle and actually win the league, so we’ll keep chasing.'

Paul Cook looks set to make a few changes, with the likes of Nicke Kabamba and Stanley Aborah in line to play some part. Defender Jack Whatmough and midfielder Amine Linganzi are other fringe men set for a run-out of some sort.
