Why there will be no letting up from Pompey
Sunday, 23rd Apr 2017 19:09 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey will keep fighting for every point all the time the League Two title is still in reach.

That's assistant manager Leam Richardson's promise after Pompey's 2-1 win over Cambridge was coupled with a Doncaster defeat at Wycombe to leave the Blues just four points behind Rovers in the top three.

Plymouth are two points ahead of Paul Cook's men in second and Richardson said that now promotion was in the bag, there'd be no taking the foot off the gas - as a fine team performance against Cambridge showed.

Richardson told the club's website: 'At the start of the season you look to make the play-offs, once that’s secure you want promotion and when that’s done you try to win the league. While that’s still mathematically possible, we’ll certainly look to give it a right go and keep our fingers crossed.

'So it was a great result and we were very good in parts against an honest Cambridge side. Our lads certainly had to defend at times and there was an aerial threat from set-pieces, so we had to be switched on. We acquitted ourselves well.

'We had to stay professional and we look to win every game we take part in, especially because there are sides all around the country with so much still to play for.'

Pompey go to play-off chasing Mansfield next Saturday then host Cheltenham in their final game a week later. Doncaster host Exeter then go to relegation-hauned Hartlepool to finish up.
