Early Pitman signs encouraging for boss
Monday, 17th Jul 2017 22:34 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett revealed he had been tracking Brett Pitman since taking over at Pompey.

The former Bournemouth and Ipswich striker scored both goals in the 2-0 friendly win at Bognor on Saturday and is set to captain the Blues in their quest for League One success.

Jackett said he was glad to have Pitman and although he had only partnered Conor Chaplin up front so far, other forwards in the Blues squad would have a role to play.

Jackett told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'It was only Brett’s second day at the club, but he played the full game and scored two, so that’s encouraging.

'We were trying to get him here since I came to the club and we hope that he can form a productive forward partnership with Conor.

'But you need a squad as well and behind them you’ve got Kabamba, Smith and Main, who will all be pushing.

'There are certainly options in our strike-force and it’s all about putting the right people into the right slots.'

Pitman will get another chance to show his talents when Pompey host his former club the Cherries in a home friendly on Saturday.

Fans are being urged to buy tickets in advance for that game.
