Pitman's Pompey pride
Thursday, 27th Jul 2017 21:29 by pompey-fans.com staff

Brett Pitman has spoken of his pride at being named Pompey skipper- and his gratitude to Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe for telling him all about life at Fratton.

Pitman is Kenny Jackett's slightly surprising choice to wear the armband and Pitman said he couldn't wait. And he said Howe, who he was with at Dean Court, spoke highly about the Blues and their fans when he was talking to him about a potential move to Fratton from Ipswich.

Pitman told the BBC: 'His experience and knowledge of the fan base and what it means to play for Portsmouth were great. It wasn't anything I didn't already know, but to hear it from someone who's experienced it made a big impact.'

Pitman said of Jackett's decision to make him captain: 'The day after I arrived he told me. It's a great honour.

'We've sold 14,500 season tickets and, for a League One club, that's huge. I'm looking forward to the new challenge of being captain. It's only something I've done once or twice towards the end of games, but never from the start.'

Pompey's league opener at home to Rochdale is just nine days away. They play their final friendly this weekend at Crawley.
