Pompey boss: We need to more like Blackburn

Kenny Jackett was not shy about pinpointing wht Pompey lost at Blackburn.

The manager was unhappy with many aspects of his team's play as they siffered a second defeat on the road within a week.

He told the club website: 'In the end it was a case of them making fewer mistakes than us. It’s not always about doing something special on the ball — sometimes it’s about being dogged and making sure you do your job.

'It’s about Donohue and Clarke not playing two short passes, giving it away and all of a sudden you’re 1-0 down. If we’re going to make mistakes like that at vital times, then we’ve got to be very good at the front end of the pitch.

'You need to make sure that the opposition do something fantastic if they want to break the deadlock. We’ve given away five goals in two away games and that’s cost us. It should be zeros and ones in the against column, but we’ve given ourselves too much to do.

'We need to be more like Blackburn because it was a very solid performance from them and they deserve the points. The quality of our crossing wasn’t quite there to find shooting chances and we lacked that cutting edge.'

Pompey held Blackburn in awful conditions at Ewood Park until the 38th minute when slack defending allowed Harry Chapmen to lay a pass off to Brdaley Dack, whose fierece shot had too much for Luke McGee.

Danny Graham doubled Rovers' lead 13 minutes into the second half when Danny Graham's low shot from 20 yards was well placed into the bottom corner beyond McGee's reach.

Dominc Samuel was sent off for kicking out at Christian Burgess as the pair chased a long ball, but that didn't help Pompey and it was Rovers who had the final say when Craig Conway's deft chip over McGee had just enough on it to go in and complete a poor afternoon - and poor week - for the Blues.

They host Bradford at Fratton next Saturday.
